WTA believes that fear to be infected with coronavirus will be for the players and all the people who play any part in tournaments, a great incentive to follow safety rules than monetary fines.
“In collaboration with medical experts, WTA has developed strict protocols of health and safety to create a safe environment in the WTA tour and the tournaments, when the season resumes. The success of these measures will depend on compliance with these protocols, the players, their teams, tournaments and staff.
If they do not adhere to, that financial penalties will not be due to the fact practically nothing considering that the player (or anyone in the WTA tour) will pass test positive for COVID-19. If protocols are not adhered to and the risk will only increase, the Tour will have no choice but to close. For the benefit of tennis and the Tour, everyone must follow the rules”.
Recall that the tennis season needs to be renewed on August 3 in Palermo. Initially, the tournaments should be held without the presence of the audience, however this can change due to decisions by government or local authorities.
Earlier it was reported that Svitolina and Yastremsky showed up at the tournament in the United States, which is not yet in the list.
