Poland wants independence from Russian gas and fully intends to abandon it in 2022, to this end, the country is developing a gas terminal in Swinoujscie, according to PolskieRadio.
In addition to Russian gas, which now covers the demand of the Polish market is 60%, Poland gets gas from Qatar and the United States. Since 2022, the Polish economy must be freed from gas supplies from Russia, said the head of the Polish oil and gas company Jerzy Kozinski.
The capacity of the gas terminal in świnoujście – five billion cubic meters, it can provide a quarter of domestic needs of Poland. The development of the gas port will allow the country to receive 8.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The terminal is located on the Baltic sea, it is designed to receive liquefied natural gas. The construction of the facility began in 2007, the terminal was opened on 12 October 2015. In 2016, it was named after Polish President Lech Kaczynski.
