The European Parliament backed a package of reforms in the sphere of freight traffic. The new rules will help to provide the best of amenities and will allow truckers to spend more time at home, about it reported a press-service of the European Parliament on 9 July.
“Companies will have to create your own schedule, to drivers of international freight transport to return home at regular intervals (every three or four weeks, depending on work schedule). Mandatory regular weekly rest cannot take place in the cab of the truck,” – said in the message.
New rules are intended to combat various schemes of tax evasion by transport companies that are registered in the EU countries with the most favorable tax laws.
After the entry into force of the new legislation the company will need to confirm the presence of significant volume of traffic in this state.
“The new rules will also require that trucks returning to the operating centre of the company every eight weeks,” – said in the European Parliament.
The rules will enter into force after their publication in the EU official journal in the coming weeks. New rules on working conditions and rest of drivers will apply 20 days after publication of the act, said the press service.
