UEFA has denied the information on possible reduction of the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and Europa League in the season 2020/2021.
Earlier it was reported that UEFA is studying the possibility of reducing the qualifying rounds and the complete abolition of the qualifying matches of the European Cup. The situation is affected by the ban on holding matches on the part of individual governments, e.g. France and the Netherlands, a soccer game can be organized not earlier than September.
“UEFA have never considered the possibility of deprivation of the winners of the Championships of their natural right to try to reach the group stage of the Champions League thanks to results on the field. UEFA is currently monitoring the situation and any potential impact on the format of the qualifying rounds for club competitions next season. To date, no specific options for the format of qualification for European club competitions has not been developed,” reads the official statement of UEFA.
The draws of the Champions League and Europa League this season, was suspended due to pandemic coronavirus disease COVID-19.
