The President of the United States Donald trump offered to sell Puerto Rico, which is a freely associated state under the control of Washington. In an interview with The New York Times, published July 10, said the former acting Minister of internal security of the United States Elaine Duke.
Duke almost 30 years working in departments of internal security and defense, was Deputy national security Minister in the summer of 2017, then acting Minister until the appointment to the post Kirsten Nielsen.
According to Duke, after a devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico by 2017, trump offered to sell the island or to get rid of it in different ways. She stressed that the idea of the President were more like suggestions of a businessman, “Can we transmit electricity to outsourcing? If we can sell the island? Or to get rid of this asset.”
The official added that the idea of selling Puerto Rico has never been seriously discussed after trump announced it.
