The President of the United States Donald trump July 10, pardoned his former Advisor Roger stone, who was convicted in the case of intervention of Russia in election of the President of the United States in 2016. This is stated in the statement published on the White house website.
“Stone is a victim of deception [about Russia’s intervention in the elections] that the left and their allies in the media have for years promoted, in an attempt to undermine the presidency of trump. Any collusion between the campaign or the administration trump trump with Russia did not exist. This conspiracy is nothing more than a fantasy party members, unable to accept the result of elections in 2016,” – said in a statement.
According to trump, stone cost “very unfair” and he is now a free man.
Stone was arrested in his home in Fort Lauderdale on 25 January 2019. He was accused on seven counts, including obstruction of justice, pressure on witnesses and perjury.
In November 2019, the jury found stone guilty of giving false testimony to Congress as part of the investigation Robert Mueller about the Russian intervention in elections in the United States in 2016.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that stone was trying to get information from the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about the hacked emails that undermines the credibility of the ex-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. In addition, he was convicted of intimidating a witness, forcing him not to cooperate with the investigation of Congress. He was found guilty on all seven counts.
In February 2020, the court sentenced him to 40 months imprisonment. On 14 July he was to appear in Federal prison in the state of Georgia to serve his sentence.
