US President, Donald trump has decided on the candidacy of U.S. Ambassador to Belarus, reported on the White house website on April 20.
In the case of the approval of the candidacy by the US Senate, the us Embassy will be headed by Julie Fisher, who now holds the position of Deputy assistant Secretary for Western Europe and the EU Bureau of the state Department on Affairs of Europe and Eurasia. Previously, Fischer was a Deputy chief of U.S. mission to NATO, the temporary attorney in Affairs of the USA in Russia, counselor for political and economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, chief of staff to the Deputy Secretary for management and resources, Department of state, the Director of the operations center of the Department of state.
The U.S. Ambassador left Belarus in 2008, shortly after Minsk withdrew the head of the diplomatic mission from Washington. Opinion of the Belarusian Ambassador was a reaction to the imposition of sanctions against state-owned company “Belneftekhim”. Over the next 12 years the U.S. Embassy of Belarus was headed by temporary attorneys.
The agreement to exchange ambassadors between the USA and Belarus was reached in September last year at a meeting of Deputy Secretary of state David Hale with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
