June 4, Austria open borders with all neighbouring countries, except Italy. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Austria on 3 June, reports the press service of the government.
Thus, starting tomorrow, border and sanitary control on the borders of Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and the Czech Republic will be completely abolished. Citizens who enter or leave these countries, will not need to undergo a mandatory testing for coronavirus and send to quarantine.
“Travel in times of globalization – is not a luxury but a necessity”, – said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Austria Alexander Ellenberg, commenting on the decision.
He added that the same decision in respect of Italy can not be taken with regard to the epidemiological situation in the country. The Minister suggested that Austria is “very seriously” consider the possibility of easing border and sanitary control with the Italian provinces in which the situation will improve.
According to Shallenberger, the goal of the Austrian government – “complete freedom of travel as soon as possible”. “But at present, it is recommended to avoid unnecessary travel and to spend your vacation in Austria,” said the Minister.
For information of Austrian authorities in the country of 16.7 thousand confirmed cases of infection with coronavirus, of which 670 people died, 15.6 thousand already recovered.
