After a series of cancelled events due to pandemic coronavirus this week on Sunday night Central time the UFC will hold its first March 14 tournament. 249 UFC event will be the first of three planned in Jacksonville (Florida, USA) on a deserted arena “VyStar Veterans Memorial”.
In the main event, Tony Ferguson and Justin Geydzhi in the absence of the champion of UFC in lightweight Habib Nurmagomedov will compete for the belt, interim champion, then the winner of the bout in autumn to be able to fight with the Dagestani “Eagle”.
Ferguson comes to the battle with a 12-match winning streak, including finishes in the last three rivals: Kevin Lee (SBM 3), Anthony Pettis (TKO 2) and Donald serron (TKO 2). Unlike Geydzhi, Ferguson had a full camp, he began training to fight in December in the hope to fight Nurmagomedov on April 18. But the fight with Habib fell through due to the coronavirus, and the UFC 249 had to be postponed to may 9th.
I heard a rumor Geti was an option in the summer to fight Conor McGregor, but he preferred a bird in the hand, as a substitute Nurmagomedov 6 APR. After two defeats by knockout to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Pare Justin has revised its attitude to the tactics in the first round knockout of James Vick, Edson Barbosa and Donald Serrone. In this series he comes to a title fight.
Ferguson is very good in the front, besides, he on a regular basis changes stand to confuse your opponents, and marvelously adaptable to them. His phenomenal cardio, ruthless aggression, and unpredictable style are just some of the amazing qualities of “El Cucuy” that helped 36-year-old Americans do not know defeats in 2012.
But Geydzhi is currently one of the most brutal drummers of promotion. And in the last three fights “Highlight” proved that he is no longer just primitive going forward grunt. After losing Pore he became a patient drummer, and the result of small changes in the approach to battle was not long to wait – three quick Ko victory.
Both are excellent drummers. For Ferguson, unique drumming technique, however, on the side Gati advantage in striking power and the ability to finish the fight with one blow.
Both come in mixed martial arts with a solid grapplers skills. Each of them achieved success on a wrestling career in high school and University. But the success of Geti on the carpet is much more important than Ferguson.
However, the grappling Ferguson is better suited to what is happening inside the cell. Or Geydzhi just like to beat people up than to mess with them on the ground. Anyway, Ferguson is better able to engage in fights its grapplers skills, while Geydzhi almost never pays attention to the stalls.
This component is also a clear advantage on the side of Ferguson. During his career in MMA he won 8 times by submission. In the UFC three of the last six of his rivals, he finished submisson.
Meanwhile, Geydzhi over the years in this sport, won only one victory by submission, and it happened before he moved to the UFC.
Like any UFC fighter, Geydzhi certainly owns some of the techniques of Brazilian JIU-jitsu. But Ferguson holds a black belt in BJJ and regularly causes opponents to knock at the highest level.
Forecast for battle
Whatever the outcome, Ferguson Geydzhi and should make a great show. With deadly power Geydzhi his best bet to battle can be an early knockout, but he will still need to be careful.
Ferguson’s is perhaps the best cardio in the UFC, and if he is fully ready to fight, that’s an absolute monster. His attack is unpredictable elbows, sweeps, flips and attempts Sabina. And all this at a high pace. If Geydzhi will not be able to quickly knock out your opponent, then over time the damage to his health will increase, and Ferguson will end up svok.
