FINA has decided to postpone for a year the upcoming world Cup in swimming on short water (25-metre pool), originally planned for December 2020 in Abu Dhabi. The new date of this event: from 13 to 18 December 2021. The decision takes into account the uncertainty associated with the development of the pandemic COVID-19 worldwide, the protection of the health and safety of athletes and in accordance with the request of the UAE authorities.
World Convention at the aquatics FINA will be held in Abu Dhabi, 10-12 December 2021. This will be the second time in history that the championship will be held in UAE after a successful tournament organized in 2010 in Dubai.
FINA President Julio Malone said: “In recent weeks we worked closely with the UAE authorities on this issue. We believe that this is the best solution for all participants of these competitions. Meeting in Abu Dhabi in December 2021 will be a great achievement and will again serve as a source of inspiration for the development of swimming and water sports in the region.”
In addition, FINA has announced that its General Congress, which will be elected FINA Bureau for the period 2021-2025 will be held on June 5, 2021 in Doha (Qatar). New members of the FINA Bureau 2021-2025 will take office immediately after the Olympic games in Tokyo, which will be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
