U.S. Ambassador for international religious freedom Sam Brownback appealed to the Turkish authorities with a request to keep the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul in its present status of a Museum.
“The Hagia Sophia has a huge spiritual and cultural importance for the billions of followers of various faiths around the world. We call on the Turkish government to preserve it as a UNESCO world heritage site and to maintain access for all in its current status of Museum,” the Ambassador wrote in his Twitter on June 25.
