The Swiss prosecutors opened a case against FIFA President
The President of the International football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino became the figurant of criminal case. The Prosecutor’s office of Switzerland suspects him of abuse of power, breach of official secrets and incitement to abuse. About it reported a press-service of the government of Switzerland.
The reason for the initiation of business contacts with Infantino recently retired attorney General of Switzerland Michael Lauber.
Infantino is accused of inciting the employees of the Federal Prosecutor’s office for abuse of power. Criminal case filed against the chief Prosecutor of the Canton of the Upper Valais Rinaldo Arnold. With him Infantino arranged a meeting with former attorney General of Switzerland Michael Lauber.
Lauber and Infantino met twice in 2016 and in June 2017, when Lauber was investigating corrupt practices at FIFA. Last week Lauber resigned after a court found that he was trying to hide the fact of a meeting with Infantino, reports AP.
Infantino became FIFA President in February 2016, succeeding in this position Joseph Blatter, who retired from office due to repeated corruption scandals in the organization. So, in 2017, the Swiss police have investigated 25 cases of corruption in FIFA.
