Russia has sharply increased the demand for antiretroviral drug Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir), this happened after the Ministry of health has included it in the list of drugs recommended for treatment in adults coronavirus infection COVID-19. About it writes RBC.
In February, 2019 in pharmacies sold a total of 22 packs of lopinavir/ritonavir in February 2020 — 349, 15 times more. For March so far received only preliminary figures, but they show that the main sales were in Moscow and the Moscow region. In early March in the capital sold 60 packages of the drug, and two weeks later for 600. For January—February sales in ruble terms increased in comparison with the first two months of last year almost in eight times — with 370,7 thousand rubles to 2,9 mln.
“The combination drug lopinavir+ritonavir used to treat HIV infection and is an inhibitor of the protease of the virus. According to a leading researcher of the Institute of experimental clinical medicine, Professor Aleksandra Chepurnova, lopinavir/ritonavir is not suitable for the prevention COVID-19, while buy medicine “just in case”.
