In a special chamber of the Tribunal for Kosovo, directed the indictment of 10 points against the President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, the former Parliament speaker Kadri Veseli and others, they are charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, enforced disappearance, persecution and torture. About it on June 24 announced a specialized Prosecutor’s office in Kosovo, working in the Hague.
The act was passed on April 24. A public announcement about this was followed in connection with attempts Thaci and other defendants to cancel the decision on creation of the chamber and otherwise hinder the investigation, said in a statement to the press.
“Thaci and Veseli put their personal interests above the interests of the victims of their crimes, the rule of law and the entire population of Kosovo” – according to prosecutors.
According to the specialized Prosecutor’s office, Thaci and the other defendants are criminally responsible for almost 100 murders. The crimes listed in the indictment, committed against hundreds of Kosovo Albanians, Serbs, Roma people, including political opponents of the current President.
The judge of the special chamber is now studying the indictment.
In January 2016 the Netherlands gave the green light to the establishment in the Hague of new international Tribunal that deals with crimes in Kosovo committed during the 1998-1999 conflict.
In February 2016 Thaci was elected President of the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo. During the war for independence he was a field commander.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and was recognized by 100 countries. Serbia does not recognize the secession of Kosovo and considers its territory.
