The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland said that the Russian Federation recently has restricted access to its territory under the Treaty on open skies. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Poland.
“Treaty on open skies for many years remained an important element of the European security architecture, served as a confidence-building and transparency in military activities. In the recent period, a number of problems with the implementation of the Treaty restricting the Russian Federation access to its territory”, – said in a statement.
The Ministry said that all the efforts of partners and allies to encourage the Russian Federation to the full implementation of the Treaty were unsuccessful.
Diplomats believe that the effective control of conventional weapons is possible only under condition of full compliance by States with obligations on transparency and verification.
The Polish foreign Ministry noted that the US briefed them on the review of the implementation of the Treaty on open skies and the possible decision to withdraw.
The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 in Helsinki. It allowed signatory countries to carry out unarmed observation flights over the territories of each other.
