The New York Times reported that he would be writing the word “black” with a capital letter

The American newspaper The New York Times when describing people and culture with African roots, the word “black” (black) will now be written with a capital letter. This is stated in the statement of the Executive Director of the newspaper Dean Beckett and Deputy editor Phil Corbett.

This decision was taken after discussion with more than a hundred journalists of the newspaper and colleagues from other publications.

“Based on these discussions, we decided to accept the changes and begin to use capital letters in the word “black” to describe people and cultures of African descent in the United States and in other countries. We believe that this style best represents the elements of shared history and identity, and reflects our aim to respect all people and community,” the statement said.

The newspaper also recalled that the words “Asian-American” and “Latin American” there is always written with a capital letter.

The word “white” journalists will continue to write in small letters. Supporters of racial superiority for a long time wrote “white” with a capital letter, recalled in TNYT. In addition, this word does not describe a common culture and history.

This decision was taken due to the ongoing in the USA since the end of may, protests against racial inequality and police brutality that began because of the death during the arrest of an African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis. One of the police officers almost 10 minutes, I crushed his neck with his knee to the ground. According to the examination, Floyd died of strangulation.

Demonstrators around the world are cutting monuments to historical figureswho, in their opinion, were involved in slavery and racial discrimination.
