“The margin of error is very high.” In ukrgidromettsentr urged not to trust online services on air quality
The Director Ukrgidromettsentra Mykola Kulbida at a briefing in Kyiv on April 17 urged not to believe the various international online platforms and Telegram-bot on air quality in different countries, reports the correspondent of the edition “GORDON”.
“The tools used in obtaining such information, mostly remote, mostly satellite. There is a separate on-Board systems that allow something to determine in the ambient air, but their accuracy is so high that can vary by tens or even hundreds of times from the real situation. So I would not recommend to use such information resources”, – said Kulbida.
He stressed that no one is responsible for the accuracy of this information, so we need to trust official sources.
Kulbida said that Reuters and other hydrometeorological organizations perform constant monitoring of the level of air pollution throughout Ukraine, including in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
“For this purpose we have 129 posts of supervision over pollution of atmospheric air in different cities, in Kiev there are 16. Daily we receive the latest information on the devices that are tested using approved methods”, – said Kulbida.
He stressed that to doubt the reliability of the data obtained in this way is not worth it.
This morning a Ukrainian media reported that Kyiv topped the rating of the most polluted cities in the world according to the version of international companies IQAir, which specializiruetsya on information and technologies in the field of air quality. As at 9.50 am, the air quality index (AQI) in Kiev, according to the IQAir, amounted to 215 (at norm up to 50) now he has dropped to 118 (8th in the world). During the day the query is IQAir came out in Google-trends in Ukraine.
In ukrgidromettsentr explained what I could in Kiev was caused by a sandstorm and the movement of products of combustion from the Zhytomyr region. From the middle of the day, according to the Agency, the level of concentration of dust in the air “fell significantly” and returns to normal levels.
