Health Minister of New Zealand David Clarke was demoted in rank after he admitted that he had violated the rules of a national quarantine, going with family to the beach. “Under normal conditions I would have fired the Minister of health. What he did was wrong, and there are no excuses. But now the priority of our collective fight against COVID-19. We can’t prevent mass violations in the health sector or in our response. The only reason Clark will retain his position,” – said Ardern.

According to the Prime Minister, Clark will be deprived of the role of the assistant Minister of Finance and demoted in rank.

In a statement to The Guardian , Clarke said that he had taken his family to the beach in 20 km walk during the first weekend of the introduction of restrictive regime.
