The Supreme court of Belarus on 27 July sentenced Andrei Vtyurin, former Deputy Secretary of the security Council of Belarus, the former head of presidential security, Alexander Lukashenko, to 12 years in prison. This was announced by Belarusian portal TUT.BY.
The court found Vtyurin guilty of receiving bribes in the amount of $192 thousand, deprived of the rank of Colonel and decided to confiscate from convicted ex-official a bribe.
The court sentenced 16 defendants in the case. From two to 7.5 years of imprisonment was received by the Chairman of the Board OJSC “Belarusian interbank settlement center” Felix Kasperovich, Deputy head of the Main Department of information technologies of the national Bank of Belarus Andrei Podgorny, General Director of “Beltelecom” Sergei sivodedov, Director of Information computing centre of the Ministry of Finance Yuri Zdanevich, head of information security Department of security Department of JSC “Belarusbank” Alexey Milovanov, head of the “Mobile service” Vladimir Zhilin, Director of “TT-SC” Vladimir Tomchenko, Executive Director of “Bank Belveb” Yury Ponomarev.
As noted TUT.BY those who are sentenced to deprivation or restriction of freedom, “the Amnesty will be freed partially from the sentence for a period of one year”.
About the detention Vtyurin may 1, 2019, reported the Russian news Agency “Rosbalt”, citing a source in the Belarusian law enforcement agencies. The Agency argued that vtyurin regularly passed information to the Russians. “He’s not a spy in the usual sense, his connections got him a legacy from the past,” the source explained.
According to the Agency, vtyurin the last 25 years were included in the closest circle of the head of state, was accepted in the family of the President, and the youngest son of Lukashenka Nicholas “literally grew up in the hands of the father’s guard.” The position in the security Council vtyurin received in 2014 and prior to that, he was head of the security service of Lukashenko.
