Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty, who is the leader of the world ranking, said he will skip the Open championship of the USA on tennis.
“My team and I decided that this year not going to the USA on the Western and Southern Open and US Open.
I like both tournaments, so it was a difficult decision, but COVID-19 there are still significant risks, and I don’t feel comfortable putting myself and the team in that position. Looking forward to returning to the U.S. next year.
I will make a decision about participation in the Open championship of France and nearby European WTA tournaments in the coming weeks,” said the Australian.
Note that the US Open should start on 31 August, Western & Southern Open, which was moved from Cincinnati, to be held in new York a week earlier.
Last year Barty stopped in the fourth round of the US Open, Cincinnati and reached the semifinals. Under the new rules it will retain the points earned.
Earlier it was reported that Elina Svitolina can also skip the U.S. Open.
