Finland ready to accept the Ukrainian seasonal workers. About it on April 7 said the Minister of foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, will inform the local broadcasting company Yle.
He said that yesterday he had discussed the issue with foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmitry Coleby. The foreign Ministry of Ukraine informed about telephone negotiations of diplomats, but did not mention about migrant workers.
“[In Ukraine] now is not recommend their citizens to leave the country for any reason. The head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry, however, assured that if Finland needs specific people, the Ukrainian side is ready to cooperate regarding the procedure for the arrival of these people in Finland,” said Haavisto.
He noted that foreign workers are able to deliver to Finland on Charter flights at the expense of employers. After arriving in the country they will have to undergo a two-week quarantine.
Due to restrictions imposed in connection with the epidemic of the coronavirus, Finland is experiencing a shortage of labor, especially in construction, food and pharmaceutical industries and agriculture, said Yle.
5 APR broadcasting company first announced that Finland plans to organize Charter flights for delivery to the country of seasonal workers from Ukraine. As journalists found out, the Ministry of labour wants to attract from abroad about 1500 workers.
But on 6 April the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine said in Facebook that this information has not been confirmed by the Finnish authorities. “The Embassy is closely monitoring the overall situation and immediately inform Ukrainian applicants as soon as the situation changes, associated with the possibility of making travel to Finland”, – said in a statement.
