The EU has said that trump can’t change the format of the G7 and invite the group Russia

EU high representative for foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell spoke out against Russia’s participation in the summit “the Big seven”, the publication reported Euractiv.

The next G7 summit was to be held in June in the US, but at the end of may, the American President Donald trump announced the decision to postpone it to September, and the intention to invite to the meeting another four countries – Russia, Australia, India and South Korea.

At a press conference on June 2, Borrell said that the “Big seven” can become “the Big eight”, “until Russia changes course”. He stressed that changing the format of the group is not the prerogative of the Chairman of the G7.

The diplomat believes that in this difficult time, cooperation between countries which are like-minded as ever is crucial.

In London said they expected the change of Russian policy, which can justify her return to the group. Trudeau recalledthat Russia was excluded from G8 after the invasion of the Crimea. He stressed that Russia continues to disregard international rules and norms, “so it is not in the group and will continue to be out of it.”

The composition of the G7 includes the United States, Italy, Japan, Canada, France, Germany and the UK. The EU is not a member of the “Sevens,” but its leaders attend the summits of the G7 as guests. A meeting of leaders of States are usually held once a year alternately in each country. Trump this year is headed by the “Big seven”.

Russia participated in the summit of informal club of the most developed countries of the world since 1997. The G7 countries refused the format “Big eight” in March 2014 due to the annexation of Crimea.

In 2019, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the President of France Emmanuel macron said that a return to the format of “Big eight” and the normalization of relations between Russia and the EU depends on settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine.

Trump said that he intends to invite Putin to the next summit of the G7, despite the political consequences.
