The Ministry of defense of Azerbaijan reportedthat the shelling from the Armenian side into the Tovuz district killed seven soldiers.
According to the Ministry, among the dead are four officers (major General, a Colonel and two majors) and two warrant officers and a private. Several soldiers also were injured, but the Ministry did not specify their number.
The statement said that the soldiers died “in battle in preventing the attacks of the enemy.”
“As a result of retaliatory measures taken to prevent active work of the enemy, were destroyed by various military equipment, ammunition, command posts, and reserves in the depths of defense, and hundreds of people. Currently, the situation remains tense, fierce fighting. The enemy is firing at civilians and villages,” according to the defense Ministry of Azerbaijan.
In turn, the Armenian defense Ministry accused in firing of the Azerbaijani side. On the dead or wounded Armenian, the Agency announced.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are in conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
In 1991 with support from Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh declared independence from Azerbaijan. This led to the fighting, which lasted until 1994. The armed conflict ended with the signing of the Bishkek Protocol on ceasefire and a ceasefire, but from time to time between the parties there are armed clashes.
