The authorities do not exclude that the cause of the fire in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Nantes (France) was arson. About this on air of the TV channel LCI said the Prosecutor of Nantes Saint Pierre.
According to him, in the Cathedral there were three seats of fire: one at the entrance to the Cathedral, two on the right and left of the altar. Sen has noted that between the centers of it was long distance, so “on the basis of common sense” he made the assumption of arson. “The investigation will start with this,” he said, adding that “the time for conclusions has not yet come”.
Sen said that the law enforcement officers visiting the Cathedral in search of clues that may indicate a breach. Investigators checking out the surveillance tapes to determine whether there were suspicious movements at the Cathedral shortly before the fire started.
In addition, the experts intend to check all electrical appliances and networks in the Cathedral.
According to authorities, the fire destroyed the organ, installed in the Cathedral and stained glass Windows. While firefighters emphasize that the scale of the fire is less than feared, and are not comparable with the damage from the fire in 1972.
