On the morning of may 3 in the demilitarized zone of the Korean Peninsula shots were fired, four of the bullets hit a South Korean checkpoint. This is with reference to the joint chiefs of staff, South Korean news Agency Yonhap.
No injuries were reported.
In response, South Korean soldiers fired 20 warning shots and made a warning broadcast about the inadmissibility of provocations.
In Pyongyang sent a request for clarification of the incident, the answer is not yet received. The representative of the headquarters said that North Korean soldiers might shoot accidentally. The morning was foggy, and at the moment when the shooting started, on the North side was a changing of the guard, said the Agency authorized officer.
This is the first incident of shooting in the demilitarized zone on 13 November 2017, when during a flight to South Korea was wounded soldiers of the army of the DPRK.
In 2018, the relations between the two Koreas have improved. According to the results of the talks in Pyongyang in September 2018, the head of South and North Korea, moon Jae-In and Kim Jong-UN signed an agreement that provides for a further reduction of tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
