“International organizations continue to urge the Belarusian authorities to stop repressions and to hold fair elections. Some members of the European Parliament believe that sanctions against Belarus should be resumed in case of failure to release all political prisoners. Authorities are pursuing a policy of repression against participants of peaceful assemblies, bloggers and political activists,” he reminded the human rights defenders.
According to observers, the election campaign in Belarus does not meet international standards of fair democratic elections based on the principles of equal political struggle.
