A nationwide referendum on amendments to the Constitution had a negative impact on the credibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This opinion of the Russian politician and human rights activist Lev Shlosberg expressed “Facts” in an interview published on 8 July.
“Putin made a huge mistake with this all-Russian vote. It was seven days of violence over the country. Moreover, Putin’s legitimacy has not increased, but rather decreased. In the eyes of society, Putin fell because a strong ruler would never use such fraudulent means of maintaining its authority and influence on society. Putin has become a pitiful, sometimes funny,” he said.
The politician explained that “the one who maintains its power using the obviously limitless legal procedures, there is no respect and no credibility”.
“He over these months greatly undermined his power and himself disarmed”, says Schlossberg.
From 25 June to 1 July 2020 in Russia was voting on amendments to the Constitution, initiated by Putin and allow him to remain in power after 2024, the end of the next presidential term head of the Kremlin.
