The defendants in the case, “the Seventh Studio” Yuri Itin and Alex Malopolski appealed the verdict, which was guilty of embezzlement of budget funds for the theater project “Platform”. The Director Kirill Serebrennikov, the appeal has not filed. This was reported by the Russian news Agency “RIA Novosti”, citing the press service of the Meshchansky court of Moscow.
Serebrennikov’s lawyer Dmitry Kharitonov said “Medusa”that he would not appeal.
“Cyril was very tired from the courts and after an unfair judgment on his conviction is depressed. After the trial it became obvious that the guilt of all stakeholders, and the state has not suffered any damage,” he said.
In this case, “RIA Novosti” writes that the sentence Serebrennikov will be revised complaints itina and Malopolska, as the court’s decision “is challenged as a whole, not in terms of punishment of any person involved”.
In the case of theft in “the Seventh Studio” was initiated in 2017. It featured six people. Found guilty only former chief accountant Studio Nina Masliaev, she made a deal with the investigation.
According to the Russian Prosecutor’s office, the defendants in 2011-2014 stole part of the budget allocated by the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation Serebrennikov on financing his creative project “Platform”. The defendants in the case were provided to the Ministry of false financial reports on allegedly performed works, said the Russian Prosecutor General’s office. Initially, the investigators believed that the defendants stole 133 mln (51 mln UAH) allocated in the form of state subsidies, but during the debate, the Prosecutor stated that the amount of damage shall be subject to adjustment in the final charge it was about 129 million rubles (49.8 million UAH).
According to investigators, employees of the “Seventh Studio” cashed out money through fictitious contracts with a nominal firms inflated the cost of the project and appropriated the money, and Sophia Apfelbaum, overseeing the work of the Studio from the Ministry of culture, signed the statements without due diligence.
26 June Meshchansky court of Moscow sentenced Serebrennikov itine to three years probation, Malopolska – to two years of probation, Apfelbaum, the court imposed a fine, but was released from its payment in connection with the lapse of time. Pieces of silver, Itin and Malopolski must also compensate the damage caused to the state budget.
