Peter is not ready. Russia can take the world Cup in 2023, and it will hold Switzerland
The world hockey championship in 2023, which will be held in Saint Petersburg may be transferred to Switzerland.
According to the newspaper Iltalehti, Switzerland hopes to host world Cup 2023, as in 2020 the pandemic coronavirus tournament had to be cancelled. The next world Cup scheduled till 2025, inclusive. And if none of the countries will not agree to hold the tournament later, Zurich and Lausanne have to wait a minimum of five years.
The Swiss are counting on the fact that Russia will not have time to build a new arena in St. Petersburg by 2023, and that the decision of the WADA Russia banned the holding of major international competitions of the world Cup level. However, the Russian side has challenged the sanctions in court of arbitration for Sport, but because the decision of the WADA now has no power.
Vice-President of the IIHF Kalervo Kummola did not rule out the possibility of transferring the world Cup in 2023 from Russia: “If WADA doesn’t change their decision, Russia will not be able to host the world Cup 2023.”
IIHF President Rene Fasel commented so: “as of today it is not. The Swiss Federation is engaged in that after the cancellation of the world Cup in 2020 preparing a bid to host the tournament in 2026. To this date everything is paintedin 2021 – Belarus and Latvia, in 2022 – Finland, in 2023 Russia in 2024 – the Czech Republic, in 2025 – Sweden. In my opinion, to discuss the possible transfer of some of the tournament to another country too early.”
