Patriarch Kirill asked wealthy Russians to help the priests
In connection with the closing of churches in quarantine, the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) Kirill urged Russians to financially help the priests. This is stated in his address on the occasion of the day of the Holy Myrrhbearers, published may 3, on the website of the ROC.
“This pain in my heart whenever I think of the priests performing worship behind closed doors and today deprived of material support. But as faith without love does not bring any benefit, and Christian compassion must have tangible results. So I turned to the people who are wealthy and loyal to the Church with the humble request to provide financial support to our clergy,” – said Kirill.
According to him, his prayers were heard.
“Maybe it won’t change radically the situation, but each of us must now do everything in his power to assist his neighbor,” – said the head of the ROC.
He also stressed that “from the very beginning of this situation,” he was clear that it is a “dangerous and insidious disease”.
Flash coronavirus infection began in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. March 11, 2020, the world health organization declared the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
March 29, Kirill urged the faithful not to attend Church because of COVID-19.
