Pandemic COVID-19 may last two years – scientists

Pandemic coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 can last two years, believe scientists from the Center for the study of infectious diseases at the University of Minnesota (USA). Their report was published on 30 April.

The researchers noted that the duration of a pandemic will likely be from 18 to 24 months. Such a conclusion they did, analyzing the past of an influenza pandemic. According to researchers, to stop the pandemic need to coronavirus infection chickenpox 60-70% of the world population.

The scientists noted that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses have similarities, but their main differences are:

  • the incubation period (average at flu a day or two, during coronavirus infection – five);
  • the proportion of asymptomatic cases (the flu about 16% with coronavirus infection – above, the exact figure is not yet installed).

Andbecause a longer incubation period and greater number of asymptomatic cases, the coronavirus is spreading more rapidly than the flu virus, said the experts.

They believe that even after the end of the pandemic SARS-CoV-2 will continue to circulate in the population, COVID-19 will be seasonal coronavirus infection, which would not cause such severe complications as it is now.

Flash coronavirus infection COVID-19 began in December 2019 in China. March 11, 2020, the world health organization declared the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

For information, American University, Johns Hopkins, coronavirus in the world were infected over 3.2 million people, more than 233 thousand of them died, and 1 million recovered.
