Pandemic coronavirus and closed borders of the countries had a negative impact on the economy of Belarus, said President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting on may 25, reported the press service of the head of state.
“The hysteria that unfolded in the media, has left a severe imprint on people and through people on the economy, the heads of state of the entire planet was taken serious decisions about closing countries (read – the closure of the economy),” – said Lukashenko.
According to him, the Belarusian economy has been “a certain drop.”
“Our economy is export-oriented. So, we saw a certain decline of the economy, although acceptable for us to fall. Tolerable. This suggests that if open countries will be more intense than it is now, we will be able to quickly restore its economy,” – said Lukashenko.
The Belarusian President stressed that during a pandemic, some industries survived and even showed growth – agriculture, construction and IT sector.
“The issue will be with the industry. Because I could not buy the components. And, of course, couldn’t sell their products. But a lot of ready prepared products, which are already beginning to sell off. This is a good signal for the future”, – said the head of state.
Earlier the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the coronavirus “will have to flounder” for another month.
The rate of spread of the coronavirus in Belarus are among the highest in Europe. Belarus ranks 22nd in the world in the number of infected COVID-19, may 25, according to Johns Hopkins University.
