OFFICIALLY. Euro 2020 will retain its original name
The pandemic is in the early stages of the European championship on football has been moved from 2020 to 2021. After that UEFA had to decide whether to change the name of the tournament at Euro 2021 or write original.
In the end UEFA decided to keep the original name of the tournament.
According to the organization, it will preserve the original concept of the tournament and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the European championship on football (1960-2020).
“The preservation of the names I recall how the entire football family rallied together in extraordinary circumstances and reacted to the pandemic virus COVID-19 and the tough times that have survived in 2020 Europe and the world”, – reads the statement of UEFA.
Another argument in favour of keeping the original title was environmental.
Euro 2020 has already produced a variety of goods and merchandise with the logo of Euro 2020, and changed the name of the tournament would have led to the need to destroy it and produce a new one. And this would lead to the appearance of additional volumes of garbage and waste.
Earlier it was reported that the European championship may take place without spectators.
