Data from the European Copernicus climate service show that last may was the record hottest in the entire history of observations. In may 2020 was 0.63 degrees warmer than average this month in the period from 1981 to 2010. Unusual heat is observed to the North of the equator, but this spring was warm Western Siberia, where all spring fixed the “abnormal temperature”.
Tellingly, not unusually warm all over the Northern hemisphere, namely in Siberia. While on the Yenisei and the Ob was watched by a record early ice breakup in Canada spring remained unusually cold. Unusually cool, especially on the news about an overheating of the atmosphere, it was all over Eurasia and North America, but in Siberia, the temperature was nearly 10 degrees above the average for 1981-2010 years. All this bring the world to the edge around 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.
But the rate of 1.5 degrees of critical calculated warming for the world and in the long term, whereas the Arctic region is warming at a faster pace. The excess has already exceeded 2 degrees compared to the mid-19th century. In Greenland last year that resulted in the loss of 600 billion tons of ice, which gave a 40 percent contribution to the overall rise in sea level. But more and more scientists are alarmed that in the permafrost of Siberia and Canada laid up to 1.5 trillion tons of carbon dioxide, and only a low temperature hold it there.
