For the first time in five years aboard the rescue ship Ocean Viking declared a state of emergency – for the past day on Board there were six suicide attempts. About it reported in a press-service of the organization SOS Mediterranee.
“After seven requests for asylum to the relevant Maritime authorities in the past week and six suicide attempts survivors for day Ocean Viking declared a state of emergency”, – stated in the message.
The Italian authorities informed about the situation on the ship, said the organization.
“This is an unprecedented step in the history of SOS Mediterranee, triggered primarily by the rapid deterioration in the mental health of some survivors on Board,” – said the press service.
According to the organization, the team Board has requested the evacuation of at least 44 passengers that are in a state of acute psychological distress.
The deteriorating mental health of some of the 180 survivors on Board of the ship occurred as a result of the lack of solutions for their disembarkation in a safe place, since Italy and Malta refuse to accept refugees.
Among the 180 survivors on Board the Ocean Viking – 25 minors, including 17 unaccompanied by an adult. On Board also is the woman in the fifth month of pregnancy.
At 14.30 local time (13.30 CET) on the page of the organization SOS Mediterranee in Facebook reportedthat should be arriving medical team, no other help was not offered.
