As shown by the online survey HSE, 32.8% of the residents of the Russian Federation do not believe in the danger of an epidemic of coronavirus (9%) or consider it to be a fiction “stakeholders” (23%). Another 9.6 percent believe that the danger is exaggerated. The greatest number of skeptics and opponents of restrictions in the southern Federal district, says RBC.
The online survey was conducted using in-line sample (the respondents involved in the survey on numerous websites) in five stages from 18 March to 26 may. The survey polled more than 30 thousand people from all regions of Russia at the age from 20 to 60 years
The researchers note that the behavior of a group of Russians who do not believe in the epidemic or consider the invention of interested persons (32,8%), is radically different from the behavior of those who recognize the epidemic. Of those who do not believe in the epidemic, 43% come to visit relatives and more than half (54%) goes out for a walk. Three quarters (74,22%) of the respondents of the skeptics believe that the introduction of mode isolation was not necessary.
Only 18% of the group of those who recognize the existence of the epidemic, visit their relatives and less than 12% meet with the friends. With the assertion that there was no need to introduce a regime of self-isolation, only 10% of those recognizing the epidemic.
According to the research, southern Federal district is leading in the poll in the percentage who believes the epidemic is a fiction — 41,1%. More than 60% of district respondents believe that the restrictions during an outbreak must be less than and that restrictions had to be removed early (42.7 per cent). Simultaneously, the region has the second highest number of respondents who either lost income or it has fallen dramatically — with 52.1%. Most of the respondents, who were faced with a significant reduction in income it lost — in the North Caucasian Federal district (53,8%).
Comparisons show that people who during an epidemic of lost jobs, greatly reduced the feeling of danger of the spread of the virus, explains one of the study’s authors, Deputy head of the Directorate for expert analytical work of the HSE Ruslan Artamonov. “If a person feels no danger, only withdrawal prevent him to go to work or to find her to earn money. Among the population of the southern Federal district more people during isolation, lost income, and therefore a lot of people who would like to mitigate the isolation mode to quickly start earning,” — concluded the expert.
