German Chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview to the public TV channel ZDF said that he would not run for a fifth term head of government.
To a journalist’s question whether it is the opportunity to participate in the next parliamentary elections to lead the government for the fifth time, Merkel said, “No. Do not.”
65-year-old Angela Merkel is the head of government since 2005. In his new year address to the nation on 31 December 2019 she stressed that this is her last term on the post of Chancellor of Germany.
In may 2020, the interior Minister of Germany Horst Seehofer said that against the backdrop of the successful actions of the Chancellor and her government during a pandemic coronavirus policy discussed the possibility of her nomination for a fifth term. Merkel herself did not comment.
The next parliamentary elections in Germany scheduled for autumn 2021.
