The former head of election campaign of US President Donald trump political consultant Paul Manafort morning, may 13, was released from Loretto Federal prison in Pennsylvania, said channel ABC News.
Two sources told the broadcaster that Manafort transferred to the home mode of punishment because of the risk of Contracting coronavirus infection. According to reports, 71-year-old political analyst was allowed to go home until the end of time – up to 4 November 2024.
His lawyers in April appealed to the administration of prisons of the United States with a request to immediately transfer Manafort on home detention because he is at high risk of Contracting COVID-19 due to age and illness. It is known that in February, Manafort had flu, and in December 2019 he’s had a heart attack.
Prison in Loretto, there were no confirmed cases of coronavirus, sources told ABC News.
Manafort’s lawyer confirmed that his client was released from prison, but any comments has refused.
March 7, 2019 the district court of Virginia sentenced Manafort to three years and 11 months in prison in the case of financial crimes, mainly for political consultant in Ukraine. He was accused of providing the tax authorities with false information about income and concealing information about offshore accounts.
March 13 district court in Washington sentenced Manafort three and a half years in prison for crimes uncovered during the investigation of spectracolor Robert Mueller about Russian intervention in elections in the United States. He was convicted of illegal lobbying and putting pressure on witnesses.
Given two sentences and pre-trial detention period , the consultant had to spend in prison seven and a half years.
