Belarus does not have enough activists for the organization of the Maidan. Such opinion the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed, on 24 July, during his working trip to Minsk oblast, reported the website of the President.
“The Secretary of state [USA Mike Pompeo] rightly said that any war now start with street protests, demonstrations, and then Maidana. “It got worse. It’s controlled chaos,” – said the President of Belarus.
He noted that in the Minsk region there is a military part that, “if, God forbid, somewhere some independence, …can be enabled by law to restore order”.
In Belarus before the presidential elections, which are scheduled for August 9, protests against the persecution of opposition politicians. The police detained their members and journalists.
The CEC registered five candidates. For the post of the head of state claimed by incumbent President Lukashenko, the opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski, co-Chairman of the Association “Tell the truth” Andrey Dmitriev, ex-Deputy Anna Konopacka and leader of the Belarusian social-democratic party Sergey Cerecer. One of the main opponents of Lukashenka – banker Victor Babariko was taken into custody June 18, a day before the deadline, which is given to collect signatures for the candidate.
