Changes in Belarus should start with amendments to the Constitution, not a revolution. On 9 July meeting with media representatives said the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, reports the press service of the head of state.
“Improving, we should start with the Constitution. If we start with the square, we cross its history. And our tolerance, and “Pamaran” (tolerance in Belarusian. – “GORDON”) – all will go to pieces. So we have to make a new Constitution. Yes, much time has passed, we need certain changes. However, you tell me, what you need changes”, – Lukashenko addressed to journalists.
He expressed the opinion that the changes can be associated with the redistribution of powers.
“Just need to realize that it is necessary for it to answer, in the first place. And secondly, to prevent the collision of the branches of government. I went through it,” stressed the President of Belarus.
According to him, “we need to take the head in hand” and understand what should be the country.
“I’m ready for anything. Not to lose sovereignty and independence. Therefore for you to decide. And all the changes will go from the Constitution, and not from the Maidan. And I’ll try to do all that the Maidan was not” – said Lukashenko.
He added that currently “there is a redistribution of the world”, and Belarus is to find its place.
“The balance between these giants is a very dangerous thing, but where to go?” – said the President of Belarus.
In Belarus on 9 August presidential elections will take place. On the eve of voting the authorities stepped up pressure on the opposition. So, one of the main opponents of Lukashenka – banker Victor Babariko was taken into custody June 18, a day before the deadline, which is given to collect signatures for the candidate. Belarusian law enforcers accused him of financial crimes.
