President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on Monday, July 20, appointed the current Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in the United States, according to BelTA.
The post of Ambassador to the United States was taken by the Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko. In 2007-2008 he was an adviser of the Embassy of Belarus in United States, 2008-2014 – time attorney in the United States. Until 2017 Kravchenko has held the position of head of division USA and Canada in the Ministry of foreign Affairs Balarusi.
In addition, Lukashenko has appointed ambassadors to Austria (part of Slovenia), the UK, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
The post of the Ambassador of Belarus in the US was vacant for 12 years. Since 2008, Belarus was not the American Ambassador. The leadership of the country recalled its representative in Washington for consultations after the US imposed sanctions. Soon the U.S. Ambassador left Minsk. At the same time the diplomatic staff of the U.S. Embassy in Belarus was reduced from 35 to 5 people.
