Lukashenko about integration with Russia: If Russia refuses the Imperial pretensions – let’s negotiate

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with broadcasting company “Mir”, which was released on 2 April that it has agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to postpone the issues of political integration.

He said that in the framework of the Treaty establishing the Union state of Russia and Belarus have agreed on a road map in many ways. The position of Belarus is that certain issues were taken all that is best in Russia in terms of legislation and regulation, and not just automatically accepted the Russian system, said Lukashenko.

“Political issues, the so-called 31-I card (Parliament, authorities, etc.), we understand that today we do not agree. And President Putin agreed that it is generally in the direction of the delayed and now these issues are not discussed”, – said Lukashenko.

The President of Belarus stated that the country does not withdraw nand from one point of the Treaty.

“Even we take the most serious, which is currently being discussed. For example, the single currency. We are not against the common currency, but this should be a neutral currency. This is not the Belarusian ruble, not Russian… It is on a par or because Russia is big, it will manage its ruble, and we will liquidate and join them? We’ve been through in the first years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. When they threw us out of the ruble zone, and in the end we are left with Soviet rubles, they introduced the Russian ruble, and then we drew “bunnies”. I don’t want to do it again. This is the first. And secondly, where then is our sovereignty?” Lukashenka said.

He stressed that the contract was intended to create equal conditions for citizens, businesses and two States in General.

“If today Russia, abandoning these Imperial pretensions (we’re big, and you small), ready for this, let us negotiate, let us determine. Therefore, the agreement exists. And we never refused. We are ready to go on this contract, but reinforced the principle of equal conditions for people, businesses, States. Now everything is broken, “said the President of Belarus.

He recalled problems with deliveries on the Russian market for Belarusian food, and limiting the quotas for Belarusian truckers.

“If we don’t solve the issues of people’s lives and businesses, which today are on the agenda, of which 31 of the map we can talk about what the single currency and the Tax code can we say? We have formula one, we need to solve the issues of life today. What are we going to focus on “space”, if today is no Foundation. Let’s decide these issues on certain principles which are laid down in the contract. We do not require anything extra. And the main principle – equal rights, equal conditions,” – he stressed.

Russia and Belarus more than 20 years, talks about the creation of the Union state. If the parties agree, the economic ties between Moscow and Minsk can be strengthened to the level of the European Union or even Federal States, Russian media reported.

At the end of the 2018 edition of “Moskovsky Komsomolets” wrote that Lukashenko at the talks with Putin agreed to the unification of the legislation of the Russian Federation, the creation of a single Parliament, Cabinet of Ministers and other authorities, the transition to a common symbolism and a common currency.

In April 2019, the then Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said that Belarus received from Moscow proposals on further integration with Russia within the Union state.

Lukashenko said that Belarus is not going to be a part of other States, “even brotherly Russia” and that he doesn’t want to go down in history as the last President of Belarus.

According to the Agency Bloomberg, Putin proposed to amend the Constitution by nullification of his presidential terms after Lukashenko refused to create a Federal state.
