The current head coach of Kiev “Dynamo” Mircea Lucescu remembered how in the national team of Romania, participated at the 1970 FIFA world Cup held in Mexico.
“We had a very good training, long training in Brazil. In the friendly match we played against Germany in Stuttgart, and against England at Wembley. But I think we made a mistake when they arrived in Guadalajara just 20 days before the start of the tournament. It was necessary to arrive early. The heat was unbearable. Because of the heat and altitude I lost 7 pounds of weight for the tournament. Regardless of what I’ve taken plenty of magnesium, I had spasmophilia during the year after the world Cup. As for the matches, then we narrowly lost to the British and beat the Czechs. In the final match we played against Brazil. In the morning before the match, we realized that our guest t-shirt – this t-shirts intended for winter games. They were too dense and heavy. So I asked to buy a t-shirt from blue cloth, and to persuade the hotel staff to sew us the Romanian coat of arms on them. We lost 2:3, but it was a very good match. After we exchanged shirts with Pele! I still have his shirt, I never washed it in a special box,” recalled Lucescu.
We will remind, the national team of Romania, Lucescu played from 1966 to 1979. Conducted 70 matches and found the net 9 goals.
