The portal Boxing247.com called the list of the most anticipated rematches in professional Boxing, which did not take place.
Among them was a potential second fight between the Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko and Briton Lennox Lewis.
Recall, these boxers met in the ring on 21 June 2003 in the battle for the champion belt WBC and IBO heavyweight champion. The fight was stopped after the sixth round due to a deep cut in Klitschko senior. Lewis scored a victory, though the Ukrainian was leading to that moment on the cards of all judges. The rematch did not take place due to the fact that the British decided to retire.
“It was a smart move by Lewis, but Lennox made Klitschko and millions of fans feel very disappointed,” wrote columnist James Slater.
Also in the list of anticipated rematches that never took place, included the following battles:
Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Trinidad II
Roy Jones Jr vs James Toney II
Julio Cesar Chavez vs Pernell Whitaker II
James “Buster” Douglas vs Mike Tyson II
Sugar ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler II.
