Protests in the center of Minsk began shortly after the polls closed. Protesters reportedly believe announced preliminary voting results falsified: the official exit poll showed the victory of incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko with a score of almost 80%; whereas the main opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski received about 7 percent.
