The Serbian government has refused idea to impose a curfew due to the outbreak of the coronavirus after mass protests in the country.
As reported on the website of the Serbian government, was held on July 9 meeting of the crisis headquarters under the leadership of Prime Minister Ana of Brnabic. At the meeting it was decided to strengthen the quarantine in the capital, Belgrade, where a critical epidemic situation. In particular, the city banned meetings with the participation of more than 10 people both indoors and outdoors, and limited time of shopping centres, shops and other public places – they should be closed from 21.00 to 6.00.
The Prime Minister noted that these measures apply only to Belgrade, the introduction of quarantine in other regions will depend on the epidemiological situation.
On 7 July President of Belarus Alexander survived said that in the capital because of the situation with coronavirus infection to impose a curfew. He said that almost all the hospitals in Belgrade are crowded.
Vucic’s statement provoked mass protests in Belgrade, which lasted three days. On the evening of 7 July, protesters managed to break into the Parliament building.
Brnabic said on 9 July that the curfew would be, of course, the most effective measure to combat the spread of coronavirus, but the government tried to adopt an intermediate solution which would be optimal for the economy and for citizens. She stressed that the introduction of a total ban on movement will need to declare a state of emergency.
The press service of the interior Ministry announced on 9 July that in the course of protests in different cities of the country 118 police officers were injured, were arrested 153 people. The statement makes no mention of foreigners, but mthe Ministers of foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic in the air Pink said that needs to be verified information about the alleged detention of Ukrainian.
“I have read, if this information is correct, that the Ukrainian citizen was detained here, on the Boulevard Alexander Krahl [in Belgrade], during a protest. He came here like 3 July. Probably during the epidemic of coronavirus it is not like a tourist come here, so, not accidentally fell to the demonstration,” said Dacic.
Local site “Policy” with reference to information of the interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic announced on 10 July about the two detainees during the protests of the citizens of Israel. About the detention of Ukrainians Stefanovich didn’t mention.
According to data of the Ministry of health of Serbia on the evening of July 9, the coronavirus in the country was confirmed at 17 342, 352 of them died.
