Presidential elections in Poland, which was to be held on may 10, was postponed due to the coronavirus.
On may 6, the ruling party “law and justice” published on this occasion the statement of the Chairman of the political power of Jaroslaw Kaczynski and the leader of the party, the “Agreement” Jaroslaw Gowin.
It is said to be appointed new date of elections in absentia.
“After may 10, 2020, when the Supreme court declares the invalidity of elections because they will not take place, the speaker of the Sejm announced a new presidential elections in the nearest possible time”, – said in a statement.
May 7 the lower house of the Polish Parliament – the Sejm – has overcome the veto of the Senate and endorsed the law about voting in the presidential election by mail. Voted “for” 236 deputies with the required minimum of 231, reported Polish radio. Now the document must be signed by the President Andrzej Duda.
The newspaper Rzeczpospolita explained how the law will be voting: voters will have to put the envelope with the ballot and the signed statement of personal and secret ballot in a special mailbox.
The election Commission registered 10 presidential candidates. Among them – the current head of state Duda, who supports “law and justice”. He holds a post of the head of state in 2015.
According to data of the Ministry of health of Poland, by the coronavirus in the country were infected 14 898 persons, 737 of them died.
