In Norway will soon have a unique factory-camping the Plus

Architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is famous for his ability to design buildings with a dual purpose. On their account already has a bridge-Museum Twist, powerhouse ski resort CopenHill – and now it’s going to add a furniture factory-camping the Plus. The project was commissioned by the furniture manufacturer Vestre and will be located in the village of Manor in the forests of Norway.

The inner space of the factory will be organized around four main production areas – warehouse, paint shop, woodworking shop and Assembly shop. They will all be linked by a Central hub, which will be the office of logistics and forwarding center. It will be a small tree-filled public space, which will display the latest designs of furniture Vestre. At factory it is planned to use intelligent robots and self-driving trucks.

The main feature of The Plus will be that it was originally conceived as part of a tourist route and a campsite for travelers. Guests of the factory will be able to see all stages of production of furniture that will go inside the building and even up on its leafy roof.

“Factory area of 6500 sq. m. will be part of a large Park for travelers on 300 acres. It will become a local landmark and will be constructed in accordance with the regional plan for the development of green industry,” say the architects BIG. According to them, The Plus will be the most eco-friendly furniture factory in the world, and also Norway’s first industrial complex, which will receive a certificate BREEAM Outstanding (standard of environmental performance of buildings).

Construction materials for factory will be in the local woods and recycled steel. On the roof of The Plus will accommodate 1200 solar panels. The excess heat from the factory will be sent in a water-ice circuit for cooling system and thermal tanks, heat pumps and energy wells will effectively heat and cool the premises. According to the calculations of BIG, the power consumption of The Plus will be at least 90 % lower than the same traditional factory.

Plus The construction is due to start later this year.
