Court of the city of Kostanay (Kazakhstan) has sentenced a local resident Yevgeniya Scherbak to 4.5 years of imprisonment for participation in military operations on Donbass, reports “Interfax-Kazakhstan”.
Scherbak was convicted of an offense under article 172 of the Criminal code of Kazakhstan – participation in foreign armed conflicts. The sentence was handed down on may 21.
According to media reports, since 2014 Shcherbak fought in the Donbass on the party of Russian mercenaries in the battalion “Sparta”. From 2016 was wanted in Kazakhstan on suspicion of mercenary activities, with a 2017 in hiding on the territory of Russia. In April 2020 Scherbak was expelled by Russia at home.
In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia has begun armed aggression in Eastern Ukraine. Fighting underway between Ukraine’s Armed forces on the one hand, and the Russian army and Russian-backed militants, who control part of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other.
