In China called “very absurd” the claim of the American state due to pandemic coronavirus
Foreign Ministry spokesman China Geng Shuang believes that a lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor General of the U.S. state of Missouri to the Chinese authorities because of the pandemic coronavirus infection, no prospects. He stated this at a briefing on 22 April, its transcript published on the foreign Ministry website.
“This kind of “trial” no actual or legal basis. It just makes us smile”, he said.
The diplomat says that since the beginning of the outbreak of coronavirus infection the Chinese government “openly, transparently, responsibly and in a timely manner” informed the world health organization and other countries, including USA, about the pandemic.
“The United States have unfettered access to information and data from China,” said Geng Shuang.
He called the next trial frivolous and said that he challenges the theory of law. Based on the principle of sovereign equality, the American courts did not have jurisdiction over the actions taken by the government of China in connection with the epidemic, the diplomat said. According to Geng Shuang, the most correct in this situation would reject “this abusive lawsuit”.
Agency Associated Press noted that during the briefing the diplomat also called initiated by the Missouri judicial process is “very absurd” (in the transcript on the website of the Chinese foreign Ministry’s statement there).
The attorney General of Missouri Eric Schmitt filed a lawsuit to the Chinese government, Communist party officials and agencies of China in the Federal district court, Eastern district of Missouri on April 21. According to Schmitt, the Chinese government withheld information and denied the facts of transmission of the coronavirus that caused the pandemic and have made little effort to contain it. The Prosecutor stated that the pandemic directly affected Missouri, where thousands of people fell ill and many died. The amount of the claim in a statement, Schmitt was not called.
Missouri became the first American state to file a lawsuit against China. But on April 22, plans to initiate similar court proceedings , said the attorney General of the state of Mississippi Lynn Fitch. She believes that China needs to prosecute “for malicious and dangerous actions” that led to casualties and serious economic losses.
The Associated Press suggests that such lawsuits will likely be symbolic, because China is protected by sovereign immunity.
